Welcome to St James's Church in Riding Mill.
A warm wecome to St James's Parish Church, Riding Mill; on the banks of the beautifulRiver Tyne in Northumberland.
During the Covid-19 Lock-down we are continuing to worship and pray and keep in touch, using the church building where possible and taking advantage of our open spaces, too. Full details of our Sunday services, mid-week communion in church and payer group on 'Zoom' - and our other acrtivities - are on these website pages.
Although close to Newcastle and boasting a stop on the railway we are very much a village church which has always looked outwards to welcome visitors to and provided an insprational place for villagr activities. The spire on the church build is a landmark from the main road and attracts many to stop, stay a while and maybe relect a little.
Yet beatiful and distinctive though our building is, a church is about far more than mello stone and vibrant stained glass. Its about weaving nets of relationship - how Chirstians in this place worship and serve God; how we serve our community; and how we try to put our money where our mouths are in terms of living out our faith as Jesus taught.
Like most churches we are very much a work in progress and are always learning. Like most churches we make mistakes and have our faults and foibles (for we are too human by half). Through it all, we want to be a church worthy of its founder and so we keep trying, for Jesus’ sake.
There may be many reasons why you are looking at our website. Perhaps you are looking for somewhere to arrange a baptism (christening) or a wedding? Or find out how to deal with a death. Perhaps you or someone you know needs prayer? Perhaps you want to find a place to worship and feel at home or perhaps you want to find out more about what it means to be a Christian today?
Whether you are looking for help, worship, history or salvation these pages should give you a good start. But there is no substitute for the real thing – so get in touch or just drop in to a service or event. We look forward to seeing you!
In the Diocese of Newcastle and set in the beautiful Tyne Valley, we are the Parish Church in the heart of the village.
The village is a lively community and we offer a place of Christian worship and welcome.
This website will give you some basic information. Do contact us if you would like to know more about Jesus and our lives with him, or better still, come and join us at any of our services!
